I thought that Charles Buell was my online friend. I thought that Charles liked me. I thought that... well, never mind what I thought. I can't believe that Charles has done this to me (or should I just call him Charlie?).
He sent me a Bookworm MeMe". - heavy sigh -
What is a "Bookworm MeMe", you ask? Well, as charles explained it in his post, here are the rules.
DA RULES according the Charles:
1. Grab the nearest book (cannot be the bible)
2. Open the book to page 56
3. Find the fifth sentence
4. Post the text of the next two to five sentences
5. Don't dig around for your favourite book, or the one you think people will think is cool, or show that you're an intellectual. Pick the closest one.. we'll know if you cheated
6. Tag five other people, and make them do the same.
Okay, so the book I found closest to me page 56 (it would have been entirely different, had I checked out my AR blog from home, before coming to the office...) fifth sentence:
"The 379 acres that the university bought in 1853 for $25,000 had increased in value to at least $3,000,000 by 1863. But in the financial panic of 1873, some Chicago banks temporarily suspended operations and in the aftermath most construction came to a halt. It was a difficult period and prices fell to the lowest level in years."
Wow... sound frighteningly familiar 150 years later?? This is from a book entitled Evanstoniana, An Informal History of Evanston and Its Architecture, by Margery Blair Perkins 1984 (currently out of print). I keep it around as a reference book, because it's got photos and history on some of the historic homes in Evanston, and the people behind them.
Okay, okay... now I have to punish tag five other people.... - heavy sigh -
I apologize in advance... I really, really do.
ohmigosh... I gotta do FIVE of these???
and
Keep an eye on them, and you'll see what THEY'RE reading!
AND HEY!!!! I JUST NOTICED... THIS WAS MY 100TH POST!!!! WOOOO (and also) HOOOOO!

Oh boy, not another one of these:( It's only a matter of time before some gibroni hits me with this. I just hope I have an interesting book within my reach when that time comes;)
ohhh... Jason... I forgot Jason (mental note to self)
Dang---I forgot Jason too----I am sure he won't be left out for long. Sorry about that Alan---there is always some sort of weird compliment hidden in these MEME things:)
I hope this, like the flu, by passes me. It took me forever to do the MeMe.
Charles, it's okay... i'm just busting your chops.... I actually do take it as a compliment, while grumbling under my breath!
Connie... don't count on missing this one... there is no innoculation strong enough... I've seen 4 of them flying around this a.m.
Alan, not to worry I know Steve Smith so I am used to having my chops busted:)
Sounds eerily familiar! Congrats on the 100th post! I cheated and only tagged 3!
Hey there my friend, thanks for tagging me on this , I also got it from Cynthia in Carolina too but I am only sending it to five others and not ten! I actually enjoy this stuff now and then so THANKS!
I actually have a book at my elbow - this might be interesting.... Ahhhh, nothing very interesting. I won't post it. Then you would all know I'm just reading a steamy romance! LOL!
Okee dokee, Here is mine and thanks for the invite!

I hope I am not breaking a rule and leaving this link in my comment because I am not trying to jack your blogs...I am laughing as I write this...have a great week!
Susan, thanx for the congrats
Russell... I did see that you got tagged twice... I think sending out ONE group tag is just fine., and your'e not breaking a rule by posting your link to prove that you followed the tag.
Heather.... I think we would all enjoy hearing a chapter or two of a steamy romance... it's kinda cold out there.
Alan...
Amazing parallel to today, and actually looks like a cool read! I love history in any form or fashion!
I think this Meme was the least painful one of them thus far.
Richard, I'm a bit of a history buff too. I really wanted to quote from one of my favourite books "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett (it's an historical novel about the great cathedrals of England and Europe)... but it was at home, not at the office.
Melody, I agree, this one didn't require any introspection.. much easier... (that doesn't mean I want to be retagged!)
Just checking in and thanks again for the tag. I enjoy them once in awhile!
